JC Ann, an Actress and Singer-Songwriter, Hopes to Make Vertical Musicals

JC Ann is a multi-talented actress and singer shining in micro-dramas, but her original path in life had nothing to do with the arts. She was all about science.

People who realize their real passion later in life or out of the blue are always inspirational. Starting over isn't easy, but if someone can make their dreams happen, it means that anyone can become whomever they wish to be.

This happened to JC Ann, and now, she's shining while rising through different entertainment sectors. She also has big hopes for the future of micro-dramas that could change this rapidly growing field. Let's get to know her better!

JC Ann: Growing Up

The actress grew up around 30 minutes outside of San Francisco, California, in the East Bay Area. She described this place as a "farm town," especially due to corn harvests, during an interview with Jen Cooper from Vertical Drama Love on September 11, 2025.

During her childhood, she played video games and spent a lot of time outdoors. That's how she discovered her love for bugs. She is also a huge cat person, as she has always been around them.

Because of her dedication to acting, most people may think that she comes from an artistic family. But it's actually the opposite. Most of her relatives are scientists and engineers. The only outlier was her grandmother on her father's side, who was a burlesque dancer.

"She was a dancer in Forbidden City Chinatown back in the '40s," she explained, clarifying that her grandmother was Chinese. "There's this Chinese nightclub, and it's since been shut down. But it was very, very popular."

Despite that inspiration, Ann didn't discover where her talents lay until nearly two years ago. Unlike many other actors, she never participated in school theater. In fact, she graduated in Environmental Science. But at one point, she found herself going through a strange period, trying to see what her future would be after a bad break-up.

Suddenly, she decided to take an acting class to meet people and make friends, but everything changed then. Her acting coach eventually encouraged her to take this seriously. Therefore, Ann began auditioning, but she didn't realize this would be her whole career until her first job in a vertical drama set.

JC Ann: Starting in Vertical Dramas

After submitting her first headshot, Ann got small roles in some projects, but a few months later, she got the lead part in "Deadly Divas: Seduce My Billionaire Enemy," alongside Taylor Anne Danehower, who became her roommate.

Since then, she has appeared in both leading and supporting roles for many micro-dramas, like "Lady CEO's Revenge," "Look What You Made Me Do," "Duke with Benefits," "Billionaire Daddy: The Hunt Is On!" and "The CEO's Contract Lover."

Her other can't-miss options include "Stop Calling Me Miss," "Falling in Love with My Ex Husband Again," "The Double Life of My Secret Husband," "Sex and the Surrogate," "Engaged to the Secret Billionaire," "My Poor Husband Is a Billionaire," "Secret Heiress Spoiled by Two Rockstars," and several more.

JC Ann: Singing and the Future for Verticals

Although vertical dramas make up most of her work experience, Ann is also a singer and songwriter. But just like acting, this passion began just last year. Now, several of her songs are on Spotify, and she hopes that micro-dramas will start making musicals.

The actress told Cooper during their conversation that she has been subtly hinting to whomever will listen that she would be the right person for such a project.

"I'm your girl. I will write music for it," she said, adding that she might have to write a script herself. "[...] A High School Musical type of script, I think, like a YA young adult High School Musical type of script, would do really well in the space."

Ann also hopes that vertical dramas will become more mainstream and that the industry will adhere to SAG requirements. Which of her dramas will you be watching first?
