Kirby Ellwood is one of several actors who are turning Western vertical dramas into a giant industry with more views than most people imagine, but acting wasn't always her plan.

While micro-dramas might not be everyone's cup of tea, as they were designed for phone-watching, no one can deny that they're becoming a major draw for talents like Kirby Ellwood.

Actors like her have found opportunities that were previously impossible to obtain in Hollywood, and they're not just gaining a few fans; some of these short series have garnered millions of views from around the world. Let's get to know Ellwood, some of her micro-dramas, and what she has learned in this industry.

Kirby Ellwood: Discovering Her Passion

Born on August 4, 1998, this young woman from Cleveland, Ohio, never actually dreamt of becoming a thespian. It was something she discovered after searching for a while.

In a January 2025 interview with Authority Magazine, Ellwood explained, "I've always been someone who found my own excitement, especially as an only child. As a kid, I tried everything — ballet, basketball, gymnastics, horseback riding — and I always wanted to explore what was out there."

While attending Kent State University, she wasn't sure what she wanted to do with her life, going so far as to change her major a few times. Finally, in 2019, she decided to take "Acting 101," and everything changed. Afterward, she started attending more acting courses.

At the Houde School of Acting, Ellwood trained under Jessica Houde-Morris in the Meisner technique, which is the practice of connecting to your acting partner in order to develop the real emotions needed for a character in a scene.

After relocating to Los Angeles, she took lessons at The Markland Studios from John Markland to help with deeper character development and scene study.

Although she worked on several shorts and a few other projects, her biggest breakthrough came in 2024 with her first vertical drama, "The Billionaire's Baby Bargain," in a supporting role. She then starred in "One Million Reasons to Love a Prince" and, shortly afterward, "Final Call for Love."

Since then, the now SAG-eligible actress has appeared in over 20 micro-dramas, like "Straight A Pregnancy," "Single Dad Hunt," "Mafia King's Missing Wife Back with Twins," "Sleeping Beauty and Three Brothers," and "Spoiled by Four Billionaires."

Clearly, she has truly cemented herself as a leading lady in this fast-paced industry, but Ellwood still dreams of expanding to other markets, such as regular TV series and Hallmark movies.

Kirby Ellwood: Off-Camera

According to her IMDb bio, she adores painting and anything creative outside filming, as she was raised by a painter mother and a father who worked in lighting design. "They taught me that I could be anything I wanted, and I carried that belief with me as I explored the world around me," she told Authority Magazine.

Additionally, Ellwood enjoys connecting with her fans on social media, which is easily done thanks to an Instagram following of over 24,000 people.

The actress also has an active TikTok account with nearly 70,000 followers, where she shows behind-the-scenes clips of her work and her daily life. Some posts even include appearances from other major vertical dramas actors like Seth Edeen and Hannah Lowery.

One of her most recent videos shows her taking dance lessons, which makes sense as she's very fitness-oriented and a regular practitioner of hot yoga.

Kirby Ellwood: The Lessons She Has Learned in Her Field

During her conversation with Authority Magazine, Ellwood further revealed that focusing is one of the best ways to get over any obstacles in her career, but so is letting go of the things you can't control.

"When it comes to obstacles, I truly believe each one teaches you a valuable lesson. These challenges shape you, making you stronger and more capable of overcoming whatever comes next," she added.

The actress also wants anyone just starting in this business to understand their own worth and value, so no one can take advantage of them. At first, she used to say yes to everything, but now setting boundaries has become a priority.

Another piece of advice she would tell others is to join a creative community, not just to grow as an artist but to make life-long connections. Furthermore, actors have to surround themselves with people who share their vision because a good agent, manager, and team can shape their career.

Finally, she believes in continuing to learn from all experiences and having fun. Are you ready to step into the vertical dramas of Kirby Ellwood? You won't be sorry!
