With an unstoppable drive and a knack for storytelling, Skylar Fast is quickly proving that determination and talent can shine even in the most unconventional corners of the entertainment industry.

Skylar Fast is one of the promising new faces emerging in the vertical drama scene, a fast-growing genre of digital entertainment. She jumped straight into the genre, making the most of the demand for newer and lesser-known actors to bring short, emotional stories to life.

From Theatre School to the Vertical Screen

A 2022 graduate of Northern Arizona University with a degree in Theatre, Fast knew early on that acting was her calling. She dedicated 2024 to refining her craft, taking classes at Howard Fine and Groundlings to deepen her acting skills.

The result of that commitment is evident — since 2024, she has starred in 19 vertical drama shorts and counting, a great achievement that has given her a consistent acting career and stream of income.

Passion and Professional Growth

Fast describes her self-proclaimed favorite project as "I Swapped Bodies With My Nemesis." Yet regardless of the project, she always commits fully to her roles. As those who've worked with her can attest, Fast consistently brings her A-game to every production.

She also shares her life with fellow vertical actor Douglas Jung, whom she met during auditions for "My Boss's Son Wants Me." Jung was the reader for the session, while Fast was auditioning for the role of Dakota — a serendipitous encounter that bloomed into a relationship.

Advocating for Vertical Drama Actors

While Fast's work has already brought her recognition, she hopes to continue to highlight the talent thriving within the vertical drama community. She hopes more people will discover and appreciate the hard work behind these productions.

Ultimately, Fast wants more people to know that the vertical drama world is filled with talented actors. As the vertical drama genre is not as mainstream as Hollywood productions, these actors are often overlooked.

A Lifelong Performer

Fast does absolutely anything she sets her mind to. Ever since she was about 5, she already knew that she wanted to act. She credits her mother for playing a big role in building her confidence, always supporting and encouraging her to pursue her dreams.

Outside of acting, Fast enjoys painting and photography and has even ventured into stand-up comedy. A former volleyball player and track runner, she's no stranger to discipline and perseverance, traits that translate into her work as an actor.

A Star in the Vertical Drama Revolution

Some of Fast's most notable works include "I Swapped Bodies With My Nemesis" on ReelShort, "A Mistake Baby with the Mafia Enemy," "Stop Crying, I Married Someone Better," and "Perfect Landing Into Your Arms." Each project showcases her versatility and emotional range.

The vertical drama format itself has a fascinating backstory. Originating in China, it gained momentum during the COVID-19 pandemic and is characterized by minute-long episodes optimized for smartphone viewing. The format's success has been exponential. The market is projected to reach $14 billion by 2027.

Vertical dramas operate on a subscription model: the first few episodes are often promoted for free on social media, but once the story reaches its climax, viewers are prompted to subscribe to continue watching and gain access to a wider library of shows.

Fast represents the new wave of digital performers redefining screen acting for the vertical era. With her talent, persistence, and passion for storytelling, she's carving a distinct path in a space that's only getting bigger.
