From British soaps to viral vertical hits, this Leeds-born actor has carved an unconventional path to stardom in one of the media's fastest-growing formats.

Robert Keefe isn't your typical leading man. Before finding fame in the smartphone-sized stories of vertical dramas, he was navigating soap sets, shifting accents, and hustling across two continents.

Now based in Los Angeles, Keefe is quickly becoming one of the most recognized faces in new media storytelling.

Robert Keefe on Finding His Voice: From Yorkshire Roots to Global Ambitions

Born and raised in Leeds, England, Keefe grew up near rural filming locations that sparked his curiosity about life on set. His interest in acting began early, and by the age of 13, he had already landed a television role.

At around 17 years old, Keefe realized he wasn't landing as much work across England as he had hoped. "I was booking work on them, but the one returning thing that I had was, your accent is stopping you from going south of Yorkshire," he recalled in a May 2025 Vertical Drama Love interview.

Motivated by that feedback, he began training daily to adjust his speech. Over time, he reshaped his voice to appeal to a wider range of casting calls, laying the groundwork for international opportunities.

Robert Keefe's Early Roles on British Television

Before moving to the U.S., Keefe built a modest résumé in British television, including a minor role in the children's series "My Parents Are Aliens," where he appeared in a lively boxing-ring scene. He also had appearances in UK soaps such as "Emmerdale," "Hollyoaks," and "Coronation Street."

In "Emmerdale," one of his more memorable roles involved releasing guinea pigs from a vet surgery during a chaotic party scene. "So they gave me this guinea pig, and it was just the most relaxed animal I've ever handled in my career," he said.

He also featured in the TV drama, "Worried About the Boy," a biopic about Boy George, where he portrayed a young Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet. These early roles, often brief, gave Keefe behind-the-scenes insight and on-set discipline — skills that would later prove invaluable.

Robert Keefe's Ascent in Vertical Storytelling

Keefe moved to the U.S. full-time in 2015, first working on the East Coast as a lifeguard while picking up commercial and music video gigs. By 2017, he had relocated to California.

"It didn't quite slot into place for me then, so I was working day to day, trying to keep a roof over my head, bills paid, and yeah auditions would come in and you'd do them as usual in this industry. You'd maybe do 60 to 70 and hear nothing, and then you'd hear back from one," he recalled.

His breakthrough came with the 2024 "Forbidden Love: Uncle's Temptation," a viral vertical drama where he played leading man Howard Baker. "I now have fans messaging me asking me to do more leading man roles, which is very much appreciated!" he said.

In 2025 alone, Keefe has starred in multiple fan-favorite series, including "Falling for a Superstar 2," "The Heiress Returns," "Escaping the Mafia: I Married a Homeless Billionaire," "Hands Off, Ex-Husband," and "30 Days Swapping Lives with a Mafia Boss."

Keefe says a big part of his success comes from working with a great team. He believes actors look better on screen thanks to the hard work of the crew behind the camera, who often don't get the credit they deserve.

While he's grateful for the support around him, Keefe also reflects on the personal strength it took to build his career. "Surviving here on my own for a period of time after moving across the world," he said of his proudest achievement.
