Now, he's gaining attention in vertical dramas, bringing authenticity and depth to his roles.

Kyle Maddox's Early Life and His Previous Work

Born and raised in Bend, Oregon, Maddox was encouraged by his parents — his father a police officer and his mother a social worker — to pursue a career that aligned with both his passions: law enforcement and entertainment.

After graduating at the top of his class in Criminal Justice from Dixie State University (now Utah Tech), he dove into police work. Maddox rose quickly through the ranks, serving as a defensive tactics instructor and testing for the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.

But while Maddox excelled in his law enforcement career, acting always remained a distant dream. His first break came when his sergeant offered him a role in an indie film while he was on patrol.

"I spent an hour on the set of an indie film, 'Arresting' their leads in a bar scene and from that moment, I was hooked," he recalled. Six months later, he left the police force and moved to Los Angeles to follow his dreams of becoming an actor.

How Kyle Maddox's Parents Reacted to His Career Switch

Maddox's decision to leave law enforcement for acting was met with mixed emotions from his family. While his parents weren't shocked by his transition — having witnessed his involvement in entertainment since childhood — the change still came as a surprise.

"So, it's kind of like when you start to finally hit your stride and they're just like, 'Oh, well, you just went through all this training, all this, you know, crazy stuff to get here and you're just gonna like just done with it now.' But I was like, 'Yeah, it's what I want to do,'" he explained.

Though his family was supportive, the adjustment wasn't without its challenges. Despite missing aspects of his old life, Maddox has no regrets. "And I'm pretty glad to be where I'm at what I'm doing," he added.

All About Vertical Drama: How Kyle Maddox Got Into the Industry

Maddox's entry into the world of vertical dramas came by chance. After applying for a role on Backstage, he was cast as the male lead, marking the beginning of his career in the genre.

His first significant role was in "My Mafia Lover's Torture," where he played an antihero, a character type that allowed him to draw from his experiences in law enforcement. "I'm a former cop so it was fun to play the type of guy I used to arrest in a past life!" he said.

He also appeared in the shorts "Crash" and "The First Response." Additionally, he is set to star in multiple upcoming projects, including "Weathering with You," "The Vine," "My Double Life as the CEO's Wife," and "By the Hand of a Woman."

Just in his early 30s, Maddox has already achieved what many dream of: he’s lived out both of his childhood ambitions—being a cop and an actor. "I've been able to do and excel at both, and now I've even been able to put the two together," he said.
