Because in "Love in Oblivion," love can heal… or destroy.

The Characters at the Center of the Story

At the center of the story is Emily, played by Tetiana Zlova, a strong-willed woman trying to make sense of her lost memories.

Marc Schöttner plays James, the man who claims to be her husband. He appears protective and devoted, but as Emily begins to remember more, his role becomes harder to understand.

Valeriia Fokina plays Sarah, a mysterious figure who appears in Emily’s fragmented memories and is closely tied to what really happened.

Yevhenii Lisnychyi appears as Dr. Michael, the psychologist helping Emily recover her memories, though his influence may not be as straightforward as it seems.

A First Look Behind the Scenes

Before going deeper, here’s a quick look at the cast of "Love in Oblivion" and the atmosphere on set.

Filming the Most Intense Moments

Many of the show’s most dramatic scenes took careful planning before filming even began.

Fight scenes, emotional confrontations, and physical moments were rehearsed several times to make sure they looked real and stayed safe for the actors.

One of the most complex scenes shows Emily falling down a staircase headfirst, with tumbles and flips along the way. To make the fall look natural, a bald stunt performer wore a wig and a towel to step in as Emily, carefully recreating her movements.

On screen, the moment feels sudden and chaotic. Behind the scenes, every movement was carefully planned.

Marc Schöttner also spent time preparing for emotionally intense scenes near the staircase. In the photo below, he prepares for a key scene where Emily begins to experience flashes of memory.

Scenes involving confrontation were also rehearsed in detail before filming.

Building the Story: Memory, Illusion, and Detail

A key part of the story is how memory is shown, and how easily it can be misleading. In one scene, a mysterious woman appears in Emily’s fragmented memories, someone she cannot fully recognize, but who clearly feels connected to something darker.

Director Yeva Strelnikova said these scenes were some of the most challenging to film.

“The most challenging scenes were the flashbacks with the main heroine. In those moments, she sees herself in flashes of memory, but with different hair. At first it seems like it’s really her, but gradually it becomes clear that it’s not — it’s another girl, Sarah.

"To make this work, we essentially had to multiply the scenes. We filmed them with each actress using her own hair, then with a red wig, and then again with the other actress under the exact same conditions. From a production standpoint it was incredibly complicated — but at the same time, incredibly exciting.”

Another key moment happens during a hypnotic trance. Emily sees a version of reality that quickly shifts, a memory that may not be what it seems.

The scene begins with intimacy but slowly turns unsettling, reflecting how unstable Emily’s memories have become.

The Director’s Vision

For screenwriter and director Strelnikova, the story started as something very different:

“I had wanted to try writing a detective story for a long time. I had never done it before, and I was curious to understand how it works from the inside — how a story is built from small clues and how the viewer gradually pieces the whole puzzle together.

"At first, by the way, it was actually a comedy. My boyfriend and I came up with a story where a woman wakes up with no memory at all. A man comes to her and says, ‘I’m your husband.’ Then another one appears and claims, ‘Actually, I’m your boyfriend.’ And she has to decide who she can even trust. But little by little, the comedy turned into a thriller.”

On set, she worked closely with the actors to shape each scene.

She believes the tension is what will keep viewers engaged.

“I think the main thing audiences will enjoy is the tension. In this story, almost until the very end, it’s impossible to tell who the real villain is. The viewer keeps suspecting everyone in turn, while the truth keeps slipping away.”

Filming for the Vertical Format

Strelnikova also shared her thoughts on working in the vertical format.

“Honestly, I’m not sure this particular story is very different from others when it comes to the vertical format. Rather, the vertical format itself is a separate language with its own rules and tools, regardless of genre.

"Whether it’s a detective story, drama, or comedy, they all still go through the same specifics: a different frame composition, a different rhythm of scenes, and a slightly different logic of visual storytelling.

"Maybe I just haven’t worked with a genre where these tools change drastically. But for now, the vertical format feels to me more like a distinct form of cinema rather than simply 'the same series turned 90 degrees.'”

Choosing the Right Cast

Casting played a key role in shaping the story and its characters. Strelnikova explained what made the lead actors right for their roles:

“I really enjoy working with Tanya, who plays the main heroine. She has strong charisma and an inner strength — she doesn’t come across as a victim. It’s interesting to watch a strong woman who ends up in a victim’s situation not because of weakness, but because she lacks crucial information. That balance makes her character much more compelling."

"Mark was chosen for his authentic masculinity and raw presence. When you look at him, you immediately understand — this is a man."

"And Zhenya, who plays the psychologist-psychopath, reminds me of a boa constrictor: he can almost hypnotize with a single look, leaving no chance to control the situation. The control is entirely his — but so subtly that you hardly notice you’re being manipulated. It’s the perfect role for a character like that.”

Moments Between Takes

Not every moment on set was intense. Between scenes, the cast and crew shared lighter, more relaxed moments. Throughout filming, Tetiana and Marc treated each other with warmth. Even though Marc brought intensity to his more serious scenes, he was often seen on set with an open, radiant smile.

Even in quieter moments, the mood on set stayed relaxed. In this clip, Tetiana can be seen just before a take, trying not to laugh as she prepares to step into character.

Some clips show actors getting ready before a scene begins, highlighting the small details that go into filming.

And sometimes, the actors simply reacted to the behind-the-scenes cameras.

A Memorable Moment on Set

One unexpected moment came during the filming of a rain scene. Strelnikova shared:

“One funny moment did happen. As a joke, I once told the producer, 'It would be great if it rained in the scene where the heroine comes to the psychologist.' I didn’t think he would take it seriously — rain is expensive and complicated to organize. But Serhii simply said, 'If you want rain, you’ll get rain.'

"And suddenly there was a rain machine on set. Tanya was soaked to the bone and shivering — it was early spring and very cold — while the cameraman kept asking for even more rain: 'More! More! Even more!'

"So there she was, standing in the middle of this artificial storm, shaking with cold, while the rest of us hid under raincoats just trying to survive the scene. The moment turned out incredibly dramatic on screen, but for us it was both hilarious and a little terrifying — none of us expected that a small 'joking idea' would turn into a real storm on set.”

While "Love in Oblivion" keeps viewers on edge with its twists and psychological tension, the behind-the-scenes footage shows something just as important — the teamwork behind it all.

From carefully planned stunts to quiet moments between takes, every part of the process helped bring the story to life.
