Exclusive: Juliette Cecile Says Her First Vertical Lead in 'My CEO Loves My Voice' Feels Closest to Home
Juliette Cecile has played her share of villains and supporting characters in vertical dramas, but her latest role hits closer to home. In an exclusive interview with Vertical Drama Explorer, she revealed why Abby in "My CEO Loves My Voice" feels most like her.
After years of supporting roles, Juliette Cecile is finally getting her moment as a leading lady.
The actress stars opposite Ryan Larson in the Alta TV romance "My CEO Loves My Voice," her first lead role in a vertical drama.

Speaking exclusively with Vertical Drama Explorer, Cecile described the project as a milestone in her career.
"It was my first lead, so that was really exciting," she said.
The actress filmed the project in March and revealed that the experience was made even more memorable by the team behind it, including director Naomi Christie.
"The director, I had been in conversation with her for months. So when I saw that I was going to be working with her, I was like, 'Yes!' and so excited," Cecile said.
According to Cecile, Christie created a uniquely supportive atmosphere on set.
"It was such a good, almost like summer camp vibe. Like everybody knew each other. It was so nice," she said.

The actress added that having a strong team around her was especially meaningful because of the demanding nature of vertical drama productions.
"It was such a gift for my first lead—not my first lead at all, because I've done leads before—but my first lead in a vertical, where the schedule is complicated. It's long, it's high-stakes, it's like you don't have a lot of takes. You just go go all day long."
"But to have a team that's so supportive and loving and talented was such a gift."

Cecile also praised Larson, who plays opposite her in the series.
"He's a very sweet person and he's very honest and very, very giving," she said. "I was very lucky to have him as a co-star for my first lead because I was so nervy."
According to the actress, Larson's support helped ease some of the pressure that came with leading a vertical drama for the first time.

Alongside Cecile, who portrays Abby/Scarlett, and Larson as Parker, the cast includes Samuel Barron as Owen, Jojo Marshall as Cynthia, James Chrosniak as Gordon, Kent Burns as René, and Camilla Goloushkina as Stella.
The story centers on two people who unknowingly fall in love with one another over the phone while remaining unaware of each other's true identities.
"It's basically a big misunderstanding," Cecile explained. "Two people fall in love with each other via phone, and they don't know who they are throughout the whole story. They think they're not talking to each other, but they really are. So, it's, 'When are they going to find out that they're actually in love with each other?'"

While the premise has plenty of romance, Cecile hinted that audiences can also expect some heat.
"It's cute. It's steamy," she said.
One of the aspects that most appealed to the actress was the chance to play a character who was in control of her own story. Cecile described Abby as a woman who has a level of power rarely afforded to female leads in the genre.

"For once, my character is the one with the upper hand because, in most of those verticals, the lead actor is the one with, you know, like the power, the domination, everything," she said.
"And in this one, I had everything. I had the power. I had the control."

The role stood out even more because Cecile was able to explore contrasting sides of the character.
"On one hand, I'm very, very much the funny girl-next-door type, kind of frumpy, and on the other hand, a full 180," she said. "It was really, really fun."

Among the characters she has portrayed, Cecile said Abby is the one most like her.
She later reflected on one of the central themes explored through Abby's story.
"We all contain multitudes, right?" she said.
"This is really about containing multitudes and having a facade that you have for the world and then something that you keep hiding."
She continued, "This is exactly what this show is about. It's like, 'What is my true self? Can they both coexist, and will someone accept me for who I am with all of that?' And I think it's cute. I like it."

For Cecile, that combination of humor, strength, and authenticity made the role particularly meaningful.
"I got really lucky because I got to be funny and powerful.”
With the series now available to viewers, Cecile hopes audiences connect with Abby's journey as deeply as she did.
